Mourning to Dancing

This blog serves as a way to share my heart after losing the one I loved, Jody Moreing Frankfurt, to lung cancer. My hope is that as I learn to mourn her loss, that I will glorify God. Thank you for reading this blog! Please feel free to comment - it is a tremendous encouragement to me.

Scott, I echo the words of anonymous...

As a person you have never met, I have been reading your blog now for the past several months. I have passed it on to my sister and a few close friends and we have prayed and cried and prayed even more for you and for Jody. I have almost felt guilty at times to be "listening in" on such intimate conversations and events. Yet, my spirit was so encouraged and I have grown in my faith so much as a result of reading your postings and the postings of those who would comment. I attended Grace Community for a number of years when I was living in LA and I saw you and Jody from a distance there. The maturity of your faith and the willingness of your heart to allow God to use you in whatever way He desired has challenged me in ways I can't describe.
Like Paul says in Romans 1:12 "...being encouraged together with you while among you, each of us by the other's faith, both yours and mine." I guess a blog is a newfangled way of being "together with you while among you". Praise the Lord for that!

Jody went to heaven on the same day that my sister's baby girl, Allyse Linda, was born. As we laughed and smiled at this new little life, we had to cry as well for your loss. It seemed to happen so suddenly and we were caught off guard. Of course, after these months of reading your blog and learning to recognize the blessings of suffering, I almost can't use the word "loss" to describe Jody's death. Really, it's a glorious VICTORY isn't it?

Like Paul says in Philippians 1:21 "... to die is GAIN." It's the PRIZE! After watching the video from the memorial service I just smile and see why the Lord was anxious to have Jody there in Heaven with Him. What a sweet addition she must be to that heavenly choir!

So, I write today and echo with the other anonymous writer that I thank the Lord for putting it on your heart to continue writing and sharing... for "continuing the efellowship".

I pray for you often and rejoice that I don't have to ask God to make His grace sufficient for you each day... I can be confident that His grace IS sufficient for you each day, and that He WILL sustain you; "He will NEVER allow (you) the righteous to be shaken." Psalm 55:22

Thank you Lord for this unity in Your Spirit and for this supernatural love that is a part of your people.

Scotty,
It was so good to see you this morning as you worshipped the Lord. I thought about how great it was to see you smile, then I realized that you never stopped. Even through your pain you have found your joy in the Lord. How incredible! The zimmers and homeless people of the world (us kids have never understood that:)) love you so much!!!

Thank you for continuing the blog. It indeed ministers to us tired pilgrims. Your words have inspired me to renew my journaling. Your words to husbands have caused me to be thankful for a wonderful husband who holds our prayer life as a priority. I am so extravagantly blessed!!

Scott,

We've never met, but as a fellow member of the Mainstream fellowship, I have watched you during this most difficult time in your life. You have ministered to my wife and I immeasurably. I’d like to return the favor and encourage you in the same way that you have encouraged us…by lifting up your heart to the truths of God’s Word. Thank you for demonstrating constantly the effective power of God’s Word to bring clarity in the midst of trial. We read your blog constantly and find our hearts lifted in true fellowship as you share your confidence in God’s promises. I have been greatly encouraged recently by a study of the life of the apostle Paul. Paul is a trophy of God’s saving and sustaining grace. I echo his words to the church in Rome, when I think of you “I thank my God, through Jesus Christ, for you all because your faith is being proclaimed throughout the whole world.” Romans 1:8. Jody’s story has given me so many opportunities to share the gospel over the last months. May you find joy in knowing that Christ continues to be exalted through this trial. I wanted to encourage you with the testimony of the apostle Paul in 2 Timothy 2:8-10. As he awaits his inevitable death, he writes this to his young brother in the faith: “Remember Jesus Christ.” I stop there and realized how incredible this statement was. This is the parting cry from a man who had spent all his life preaching (and suffering) for the sake of the gospel. To his dying day, he wanted those around him to remember Jesus Christ. What a testimony to the sustaining power of the gospel and the permanence of our love for the Beloved. Then Paul goes on: “Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel, for which I suffer hardship even to imprisonment as a criminal, but the word of God is not imprisoned.” His suffering only strengthened his faith in the power of the gospel and the certainty of God’s word. Although he was imprisoned, he knew the word of God would continue to do its work. His suffering did not diminish his confidence but, instead, strengthened it. He goes on to further describe the reason for his confidence: “For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.” This section of scripture is the supreme testimony of God’s sustaining grace; capable of giving us confidence to the completion of our course. I pray you find great comfort in the testimony of the apostle Paul. Thank you for demonstrating this type of sustaining faith that comes from God. His sustaining power is so clearly evidenced in you. Praise to His name! May you continue to hold fast to Him until the end, believing that His purposes will move forward and His plans will be accomplished through you. Finally dear brother, be encouraged by Paul’s final words which are a testimony to the grace of God: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8. Praise to our God that you and Jody are in Christ and that one day, you will receive the crown of righteousness that she has already gained. Glory to Christ for the work He has done to bring you to Himself and give you an unshakeable hope for future glory. May you continue to strengthen and challenge us by your faith and give praise to God, knowing that this confidence is in Him, through Him, and for His glory. Remember Christ always.

In Him with you,

Ryan (Mainstream)

Dear Scott, Over 15 years ago David and I were blessed to have you and Jody in our lives. Even though our time of fellowship in Marriage Builders was short, it was very sweet.

Sometimes the Lord works in ways that are unknown to me. He brought you to mind this week, very out of the blue really. So thru the tech. advancements given to us these days aka google searches :-) I looked you and Jody up. My heart broke. Jody was a beautiful person both inside and out.

Just as quickly as the tears began to fall the rejoicing in my heart began. Scott, your testimony, what you've written, the way that you have clunge to the Lord as your strong hold during this time encouraged my heart. Within a span of an hour I went from tears of grief to joy in my heart. You're engaged! How fun!!!

Even though we haven't been a part of your lives since our move to Denver in 1993 you are in our hearts. We will be praying for you.

I remember Jody. Met her in the late 70's or early 80's. She brought over her demo of her music and I knew she had something special to share with the world. I introduced her to my friend John Debney so that we could help Jody get her music out to the world. Our interactions were short and the last time I saw Jody was at a showcase in Burbank with a band she assembled. Well she left a positive impression with all that she has done as now it is years later and I still think of how lovely she is. Gary

Thank you Gary. I appreciate your post. I remember that showcase! (Before Jody and I were married!) I saw John a couple years back and it was good to reconnect.
